We’re already paying tax on our state pensions

I’d like to clarify the misinformation about pensioners not currently having to pay tax on their state pensions that has been circulating. In the current financial year, I will, for the first time, be paying tax on my state pension (my sole income) as a result of the tax threshold policy. Therefore Rishi Sunak’s claim in the leaders’ debate (Report, 4 June) that pensioners will pay income tax for the first time under a Labour government is incorrect.Maria KraithmanHemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
